Looking for an apartment
In recent weeks since accepting my job offer, I’ve slowly started to look for an apartment in Colorado Springs. Wow, this is actually harder than when I tried to find an apartment in Kokomo. I’ve got more requirements now apparently. Ideally, I want a one to two bedroom apartment with the following:
- A location that is close to my future employer and in a relatively safe area. I also want to be close to areas of entertainment, shopping, as well as a church. Living 10 miles from town in Kokomo eats too much gas!
- Pet friendly policy. I’ve got a cat that is going with me.
- Full-size washer/dryer hookups… I have a set that I purchased from my sister for half the cost of a new set.
- A place to put my desk, preferably in a separate area from my bedroom and/or living room. My desk sits in my bedroom at home here, and the focus of the room is split.
- Huge closets, preferably walk-in. My current closet is the size of an entry way closet, and it is just too darn small for me.
- Appliances (i.e. dishwasher, microwave, stove, garbage disposal)
- Some utilities paid for. This probably won’t happen, but it sure would be nice.
- Lots of storage space! You can never have enough.
Honestly, the hardest part of moving is finding an apartment. There is so much to think about when you choose one. I’ve been looking for a few weeks now, and I still don’t know where to begin. I’ve got to take in to consideration all of the above when evaluating an apartment complex, plus the opinions of others who have or are tenants of the apartment complex I’m looking at. And to top it off, there’s so many apartment complexes and apartment finding websites to choose from, that frankly, it’s a little overwhelming!
Luckily for me, I don’t have much to haul to Colorado Springs. The major stuff I have to move consists of:
- Full-size bed
- Dresser w/ attachable mirror (not sure if I’m taking the mirror… I don’t particularly care for it)
- Desk with chair
- Some small bookshelves
- Washer/dryer set
- Computer stuff (Eh, I’m kinda a computer nerd, so what! I know what you’re thinking!).
- Quite a few picture frames. Most of them are rather large in size. We’re talking 24 x 36 inches or so.
- Microwave that I won from a high school final fling… I still haven’t even opened the box! It’s probably cheap, but it sure was free.
- Toaster.
- Truck. I have to have transportation… I sadly just purchased two new tires for it today that were sorely needed before moving. Ugh. That was expensive.
When I move out to Colorado Springs I get the luxury of purchasing quite a bit including furniture, a nice television, dishes, etc. Basically anything you need to run an apartment.
I’m sure that once school ends in two weeks I’ll have more time to focus on finding the right apartment.
